This Part Usually Gets Misunderstood.
An urge can feel immediate.
Like something you need to respond to right now.
Like it will just keep building unless you do something about it.
But urges are more like waves.
They rise…
they peak…
and they pass.
Most of us were never shown how to stay withthat experience, even for just a brief time.
So the response becomes automatic.
A client of mine recently shared:
“I started to notice the urge instead of immediately reacting to it. That's when things began to shift for me.”
This evening, if an urge shows up, see what happens if you stay with it for just a little longer than usual. Be like a surfer and ride the wave...
Even for only 10–20 seconds.
Not resisting it.
Not giving in immediately.
Just being with it.
And you might notice something subtle: it shifts on its own.
And that opens up... s p a c e.
Warmly, Shelley
